we made homemade puffy paint. i remember seeing the recipe somewhere...not sure. and have been wanting to try it. so we did. it is super simple.
ingredients:
1 Tablespoon self-rising floor
1 Tablespoon salt
Food coloring
Enough water to make a paste
directions:
then you mix them all together and whala! you have your paint. use paint brushes or cotton swabs to paint on cardboard. it works best brush paint on thickly. when you are finished microwave your painting for 5-10 seconds, do not microwave for to long. (i may or may not have started a fire) and that's it. homemade puffy paint.
hmmmmm....not sure if my kids are going to be artists. but we had fun trying it.

LOVE IT! I WANNA TRY!
I saw this somewhere! That is so fun. Glad it worked... we will have to try it!
Thanks for posting...I would love to try this with my son.
How awesome!
Love it! I'm definately going to give this a go at preschool.
this sounds great! any alternative to the microwave tho?
We use shaving cream, glue, and food coloring to make our puffy paint. It takes awhile to dry but the kids love it.
This looks fun! I'v also tried shaving cream and washn't overly impressed, so I'll definetly try your recipe! Thanks for sharing :) Your blog is adorable!
I'm so glad you posted this! I've linked this post to my blog for others to see. Can't wait to try it out myself.
I love this post and your blog. I will be posting a link on my website for this cute paint and trying this with my home daycare.
Thanks,
Angela
We had a lot of fun with this today! It reminds me of two things:
a) candy dots! I wonder if you used sugar instead of salt if you could actually make candy dots?!
b) those puffy little packing peanut building toys that I can't think of the name of...you get on end wet stick them to each other and build...I think those are made with cornstarch but this sure looks like them when dry.
Also, we set the microwave for a longer time but lower power (30 seconds at 30% seemed to work well).
I am totally going to take this idea to my (almost) 2 year old's class. I think the 2s and 3s would love it. Thanks for the idea.
We gave this a whirl. Thanks for sharing! http://ladeladeda.blogspot.com/2011/04/homemade-puffy-paint.html
